RUMOR MILL

Wednesday - July 6th

Rumors of the day are that the Rangers are once again looking at J.T. Miller, though it's unclear whether there's more than one source for this, with Jeff Marek mentioning it on his 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliot Friedman.

The rumor sounds very familiar to the language used in this report in The Province, which covers the Canucks.

While it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility, it would be a substantial cost for a player who'll likely just get one season in New York before becoming a UFA next Summer.

 RANGERS HISTORY
2009 Adam Graves' number retired

When Adam Graves joined the Rangers in 1991 he was still a relatively unproven commodity.  He had registered just 23 goals in 227 NHL games over five seasons with Detroit and Edmonton.  That all changed immediately with the Rangers where he put up 26 goals in his first season, and went on to set a then franchise mark of 52 goals in their Cup year run of 1993-94.  In all Graves ended his Rangers career with 280 goals in 772 games with the team, finishing out his NHL career with the San Jose Sharks.

After his career, Graves returned to the organization as a front office employee who worked on community outreach, and a voice for the organization.  As a fan favorite, he was an almost lock for a number retirement, and that happened in February of 2009, when the Rangers sent his #9 up to the rafters alongside #1, #7, #11 and #35.
